This week was so stressful, but oh so good! It was worth every minute.
Everyday this week, we checked up on and taught and prepared the four beautiful children of God that had a baptism date for the 20th of July. Felizmente, everything went well and we were able to see all four enter into a covenant with their Father in Heaven through being baptized! It was a true miracle. I'll tell you a little about each one. I have come to love and admire each one and can truly see their divine potential.
Fernanado is 17 years old and lives with his mom, aunt, grandma, and puppy (named Kira). His dad only stops by on the weekends to sleep and then returns to work for the whole week, so Fernando doesn't feel a close connection with him. He has a girlfriend who is a member of the church from the San Joaquin Ward. She invited him to church over there in San Joaquin but a couple months ago, he moved into our area, so we began to visit and teach him. He gained his own testimony of the church and told us that he wants to go on a mission! He is living proof of the power of repentance, of the strength we can receive through Christ, and of humble dedication to family and the gospel. I love this kid.
Manuel is a beast. He came to church one Sunday a couple months ago, because a friend had invited him, and he loved it. He wanted to meet with us to learn more and so we did just that. We've met with him almost every Tuesday night since then. He's 30 years old and working. He's always traveling to Chincha and Nazca for his job. He is super smart, super receptive, and has so much faith in God and an open and willing heart. I can guarantee he'll be a bishop in the near future....he's seriously awesome.
Scarlet and Nicole are sisters, ages 17 and 15. Their parents and two older sisters are members of the church, but haven't been active for years. The missionaries have been visiting their family for years to try and help the two younger sisters with their testimony and conversion to be able to complete the family. But every time they would get close to a baptism date, it would always fall or get pushed back and they never got around to their end goal. But, finally, everything worked out well and they were also able to be baptized after so many years of preparation! In their family there are four girls and their parents. They remind me of my family, too, for a couple funny reasons. One being, they are always late and the excuse always is that "she took forever to get out of the bathroom" or "she couldn't find her other shoe" or "she was using my flat iron", ha ha. They're a crack-up. I love them to death.
Well, that's about all I've got for you guys. I'm just happy to be here, happy to be an instrument in God's hands, and happy to be seeing miracles everyday here in Ica, Perú.
Have a flippin' fantastic week!
Love,
Hermana Lowe
P.S. I taught my companion the phrase "You go, girl" and it's the best thing that's happened to me. In fact, last night, after making a good joke that made me laugh, she said, "I go girl." Ha ha, she's so cute.
