An Apostle of the Lord!

¡Hola familia y amigos!

This week had its ups and downs. Mostly ups. One of which included getting a visit from DAVID A. BEDNAR!! And his wife, Susan Bednar! They visited the CCM on Friday evening & it was AMAZING. There was a line an hour before the devotional started to get in, because those who didn´t fit in the auditorium had to go to an alternate location and watch a broadcast instead of attending the actual devotional. So you best believe I was in that line. Luckily, in every meeting or devotional of any kind with both Elderes y Hermanas, the Hermanas are always in the first few rows. We may be outnumbered, but we get the front every time, including this time. So i was in the fifth row! Aka 40 feet away from an apostle of the Lord! So. Cool. When he walked in the room, we all stood up in reverence and respect until he sat down in the stand and you could feel the Spirit so strongly. There is no doubt in my mind that Elder Bednar is an ordained apostle & spokesman for God on this earth today. He brought sincere love & words directly from the prophet the day before & it was amazing. I´m so grateful to have had this opportunity to attend this devotional & hear an apostle of the Lord.

If I could share every prophetic advice he offered us, I would. Merely sharing what I learned would take forever. He conducted the meeting in such a way where microphones were passed around the audience to volunteers to share their thoughts with Elder Bednar and ask him & his wife questions. So many prayers were answered, I´m sure.

My favorite part, or what I learned & loved the most is the fact that faith is not a muscle. It´s a gift. We don´t just exercise it and it grows, we have to act in faith, be worthy, and trust that God will grant us with that blessing. Just as Moses and the Israelites acted in faith, walking unto and into the Red Sea before it parted. My new favorite phrase is *Get your feet wet* as a reference to the Israelites´ faith in the Lord to release them from bondage. Faith is an action, and we need to show Heavenly Father that we trust Him by acting. I encourage you to read *Ask in Faith* and *Seek Learning by Faith*, both talks by Elder Bednar that he asked all the missionaries at the CCM to read before his arrival.

ANYWAY, not much else happened as significant as the Bednar devotional. 2 new districts came into our zone today & they arrived at the CCM yesterday! We are getting 4 new hermanas so I am excited for that! Hermana Petersen & I won't be the only girls in our zone anymore!
Last week, a lot of our friends in our zone left for Chile and Argentina. It's crazy that I am halfway through the CCM and that I will be on a flight to PERU in a few short weeks! The weeks are actually pretty fast here, but the days are super long, if that makes any sense.
The Elders in my district continue to crack me up & remind me of my guy friends from high school & my brother. This week they started pranking each other, by hiding alarm clocks set to go off in random hours of the night in their neighbors rooms and have stashed tide pods in each others shoes or between their sheets to try to get them to burst on each other. Muy cómico. They also have a running joke saying *Mi hombre* (my man) to each other. It´s only funny how they say it, which is kinda hard to describe over email. But they put the emphasis on the O... like *mi hOHmbre* in their deepest voice possible. Gotta love ´em.

Fun fact for you all, the B on the hill behind the CCM stands for *Benemedito* a nickname for a heroic president of Mexico. The CCM used to be a high school named after him.

The other night, we could hear so many parties happening outside in Mexico City. One of which was bumping Despacito by Justin Bieber, a song we actually know. Not a huge fan of the song, but that was fun. Even funnier was when the next day, we were talking about it in class and our cute teacher started singing *el bautismo* instead of *despacito*. It was hilarious. We get to take pictures with our teachers on the last week, so I cant wait to show you how cute and awesome they are. We just love them.

Today, Hermana Petersen and I enjoyed our first real Pday! (preparation day) Our past two while at the CCM we have gone to the temple, which don´t get me wrong, is amazing and I love it so much, but it also takes 6 hours out of our day. So we were glad to take a nap, get laundry done, and just relax for most of today. It was nice.

Well that´s about it! I miss you all & American food but life is so good & so busy! Hope life is treating you all well! I would love to hear from you!

Con amor,
Hermana Lowe

Español phrase of the week: *Estoy matando* (I´m killin it) or *Está matando* (for you're killin it)

Got a pic with my cousin, Elder Millward! So good to see him on occasion here,
and I have a hard time not calling him by his first name, haha.

New Calling!

Group Letter
Hi everyone!
Week two down in the CCM! (CCM stands for al Centro de Capitaciòn Misional in Mexico, btw, which is just Missionary Training Center in Spanish).

Mexico is beautiful! I love the green hills, colorful flowers, and rain! Also the palm trees help me feel right at home, haha. But it`s also sketchy. We like to play this game where we guess if the loud sound we just heard from outside the CCM gates is a gunshot, firework, or thunder. I think the answer is gunshot most of the time. So that`s fun. Haha, life is an adventure.

We went to the Mexico City Temple last week and again today! Ah, it`s so beyond amazing. I definitely needed the peace that the temple brings. It`s absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Also, I have mad respect for bus drivers in Mexico City. They`re a special kind of talented driving a huge bus in that traffic and those road conditions. Wow.

The Elders in my district are so fun. We play intense Spanish flashcard games, have (church related) rap battles, and they race their chairs around the classroom. Typical boys straight out of high school, gotta love 'em.

We practice teaching only in Spanish already! We started on like the second day of being here at the CCM. We have our teachers acting as investigators, or people investigating the Gospel, and we teach them what we know. So terrifying, but I`m learning so much.

This week my cute companion and I memorized SO MUCH! in our classes. So many scriptures and short lesson plans in Spanish to help us learn. And also a ton of words and phrases. I can't wait to learn Spanish!

My fav scripture from this week is in Doctrine and Covenants 6:37, "Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet; be faithful, keep my commandments, and ye shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Amen."  I need to have so much faith on this mission and I definitely needed to read this scripture this week. All of D&C 6 is amazing, actually.

ALSO mi compañera and I are the newest Sister Training Leaders! Which means we help any hermanas in our zone and basically just be good examples to them. We go to all the meetings and add our input on the well-being of our zone. But here`s the thing. As of now, Hermana Petersen and I are the only hermanas in our zone, so our job is pretty easy until new hermanas come into our zone next Tuesday.
So here`s how the organization of zone & districts go. My district is my classroom of 10 Elders and us 2 Hermanas, and we are called 14A. Our branch is us and 14C, a classroom a few dooes down. Then our zone is made up of 5 districts. Each district has a district leader and his companion, and each zone has two zone leaders and a companionship of Sister Training Leaders. I hope this explanation helps, because I was confused at first.

On Monday I saw blood twice! So fun (not). Once in the morning, one of the Elders in my district had a couple bloody noses. Later that night, my roommates and I were getting ready for bed & one of my rommates hit her head on the soap holder thingy in the shower (which is metal and sharp) and sliced her head. We took her straight to the Enfermeria, and luckily she didn't need stitches and the cut wasn't too big. Just bleeding a lot. So that was an adventure. Everyone is totally fine, so no worries. We said a lot of thankful prayers that is wasn't worse.

Well, here are a few pictures from this week! I hope you're all doing well and that those of you in SoCal are safe from the fires!

Love,
 Hermana Lowe

Family Letter
Week 2 down! Time is going by a little faster, which is good. I basically just look forward to Sunday, then P-day, then Sunday, then P-Day. I'm writing my emails out in advance in my notebook during the week so I have more time to actually type and talk to you guys but also today I have a stupidly slow keyboard. So bear with me. I hate mistakes when typing more than you guys do. Please email me all your questions!

There's an MTC postal service thing where you can send me your emails as a letter! So I can read them throughout the week and spend less time actually reading during my hour on the computer on p-days. If you guys want, you can do that. If it costs money or is inconvenient, don't worry about it. Just an idea. You can also send packages I think? I have enough PB and Nutella to last me this 6 weeks and I get money at the tienda each week (120 pesos aka $7) so that sweet.

We went to the temple again today! That's why I am emailing later. We can email anytime after breakfast and before dinner, on p-days except when we go to the temple, we have less time.
I have a list of things to tell you guys, so I'll just spurt everything out now.

On Thursday, my companion woke up and didn't feel good, and I wasn't feeling the best either. We didn't have the virus going around, but I just felt sick. We went to the Enfermeria and the doctor told her to take Tylenol and stay home for 6 hours to rest. So....we BOTH took a 5 hour nap! haha. I wasn't even the one who was sick. Oh well, it was nice but threw off my sleep schedule even more, if that's possible. It really helped her, though, so I was happy for that.
She (my comp) is a very open person & she loves talking with everyone. It's good because it helps me make more friends.  She keeps my life entertaining and we're getting pretty close.

One night my district was all unfocused and goofing off during study time so I started a flashcard game on who guessed the name in English the fastest when I said it in Spanish. All the elders got into it, it was funny.

Our zone leaders leave this week, Elder Jones and Elder Lee to Chile and we have two new ones in our branch. They're cool and we're friends with them, which is good bc as STL`s (Sister Training Leaders) we'll be working closely with them over the zone.

I saw a kid from my BYU ward this week! It was cool. His name is Elder Seacrest.

It POURED rain this week and I heard thunder the loudest I've ver heard in my life. Sounded like it was right outside my window. Might've been.
Two of the Elders in my district are super funny. Elder Peters and Elder Snapp. We came into class one morning a little early and they were the only ones in there..racing their chairs around the circle of desks and timing each other while one raced and one timed. They crack me up. Also one night they were walking home with us and Snapp dropped a beat and Peters rapped in his Nephi Utah Demolition Derby Announcer Voice. So hilarious, it's times like these where I wish I could record and have a funny video to look back on. So fun!

This week we got two new investigators (our teachers with double personalities) named Dana y Sergio. They are much harder to teach than Rigoberto, our first investigator, because they aren't as open to the church and have harder problems, it's good, but hard.

My comp and I are getting better at Spanish and at teaching in Spanish, but it's still so hard. We are memorizing so much. Sorry to the twins, but I think I know more Spanish than you now. But then again its church words in Spanish that I know so idk.

I can recite the missionary purpose, first three lesson bullet points in Predicad Mi evangelio (Preach my gospel), JSH 1:16 to 17, two baptismal invitations, and a list of common phrases on our Basic Core Vocab sheet ALL in Spanish. I'm working on Moroni 10:4 and 5 right now.

OH YEAH! I'M ALREADY A SISTER TRAINING LEADER!  It's basically a Zone Leader, but as a Hermana. We went to one meeting on Monday, but we will have three a week.

Well familia! Im a little over time but send me your questions! Also email me ALL about school! I love hearing about your lives and job hunting and seeing my friends around town.

I LOVE YOU ALL TREMENDOUSLY! I MISS YOU EACH EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Con amor, Hermana Lowe

P.S. Please read D&C 6 with missionary work in mind, and also Mosiah 16. Both awesome chapters/ Capìtulos!

Here's our email conversation from today.
Deb:  I sent her the picture that I found on FB of the CCM choir, and asked if Brittany was the one in green in the second row.

Brittany:  The pics are tiny when I try to open them, but yes, that's me! I saw the Mission President's wife take that picture, haha. We call her Mama Bennett.

Deb: What's your favorite food?

Brittany:  The food is good! I eat a lot of fruit (they have canteloupe and watermelon out for every meal) and usually some sort of chicken or beef, I have rice and beans when the meat entree isn't enough to fill me up. Definitely some weird foods, but its not as bad as I thought it'd be...ha ha.

Deb:  How are you feeling?

Brittany:  I feel MUCH better this week than the first. I am sleeping better too!  ALSO ELDER BEDNAR IS COMING ON FRIDAY AND I'M SO EXCITED! Usually the hermanas get to sit in the front rows so I'll be so close to him! I'm pumped.

Deb:  Did you have everything you need?  If I sent you a package, what would you need?  Is the towel I sent you okay?

Brittany:  The towel is perfect! I think I have everything I need! Ok, so I really gotta go. Maybe next week I'll just send you pictures of my emails written out so I can talk to you guys more.  Love you all so so much!

Until next week, Hermana Lowe

READY OR NOT!

¡Hola a todos!

I´m a real missionary!!! I still can´t believe it! I feel like I´m at EFY in Spanish or something! It´s great.

Saying bye to my family was literally the hardest thing I´ve ever done in my life. I wouldn´t have done that if I didn´t know this church was absolutely so true.

I made it to the CCM! Getting off the plane from Ontario to Phoenix, I saw a sister missionary in the bathroom and so we found our gate together to get on the flight to Mexico City. It didn´t take us long because there were seriously about 70 boys dressed up in suits around our age sitting at the gate. 100% missionaries. It was awesome. We were all so nervous and excited and everyone walking by was taking pictures of us probably wondering why there were so many of us dressed up. There were only about 5 or 6 sister missionaries (myself included), so that was crazy.

We had about a 3 hour flight to Mexico City and took busses from the airport to the CCM (MTC). That was so nerve wracking. Traffic laws are not exactly the same and we almost crashed a few times, but we´re good! Haha. As soon as the gates opened into the CCM and we drove through, I felt so much peace and love and excitement.
It´s so beautiful here!

It has been around 70 degrees and rainy since I got here a week ago! The weather is perfect, the flowers are blooming, the grass is so green, and there are palm trees to make me feel at home. I love it so much.

My companion is awesome! Her name is Hermana Petersen from Layton, Utah. She´s super outgoing and friendly, so we have a lot of friends here. I love her tons. She´s also going to Peru Lima South. My other two roommates are from Utah as well, Hermana McPherson and Hermana Jacobs. They´re going to Chile Santiago and Chile Viña Del Mar. They´re tons of fun. In fact, all three of my roommates are outgoing and loud so I´m getting used to that, haha. They´re so awesome, though.
We live in a yellow casa with about five rooms of 4 girls each. They´re all so fun and we´re going to so many places in South America and Texas haha.

It was hard to adjust at first, waking up at 6:30 every morning and going to bed at 10:30. We learn Spanish basically all day. Literally for like 8 hours. And then there´s more studying for how to teach and how to be a good missionary. It´s so hard, but so good.

Being in like the middle of Mexico City, we can hear the traffic outside the gates, fireworks, and even gunshots sometimes. But don´t worry, my cute morning teacher said that it´s normal and people are just crazy, haha.

I have one classroom that I learn mostly all day in, and I´m in that class with my District. We are District 14A, and there are 10 Elders and us two Hermanas. The Hermana to Elder ratio here at the CCM is like 1 to 15. It´s crazy.

My teachers are so amazing! Hermana Hallal and Hermano Salinas are the best. They´re really helping me learn Spanish and increase my faith in my Savior.
My district is so fun. The Elders are a blast and we´re becoming friends. 8 of them are from Utah, one from Oregon, and one from New York. We´re all headed to the Lima South Mission.

I´ve seen Elder Millward, Hermana Barney, and Hermana Hawkins here at the CCM! It was so good to see familiar faces.

So the water is warm here! Well, the drinking water. The shower water is ice cold. Well it was the first four days. It´s working now so be grateful for your hot showers, I sure am.

I also met an Elder Lowe! We don´t think we´re related but now whenever we see each other we pretend we´re twins. Also his first name is Braydon. So that´s crazy.

With Love,
Hermana Lowe

(This is Deb, I actually got to email back and forth with Brittany for a few minutes this morning, and this is what she told me.)

Deb:  I know you're scrambling to write your emails quick, but just tell me, are you happy?
Brittany:  Hi!!!! I am happy! This first week was hard with adjusting and trying to learn Spanish, but I think it will get better as the language comes! I´m trying to write a group and family email, but I don't have much time left. We're going to the temple today! At 11! It will be an all day thing.
Also, I´ll try to figure out how to attach pictures in an email, I took so many for you.
I love and miss you so much, I´ve only cried twice, and both because I miss you, and just want to hear your voice.

And then she sent a separate email to family, and here's what it said:
(I'm thinking she'll just write one email in the future....and save time...ha ha! I also corrected her typos that she mentions below.)

HOLA MI FAMILIA!!!! I´m basically over time right now, so I'm hurrying to type this email. There's so much I want to say that I will probably have to wait til next week.

This email will kind of be a mess with all of my jumbled thoughts.
The spanish keyboard is weird, but mostly the same as the american one.

Life is crazy. I feel like I'm at EFY on steroids & in spanish.

I'm not sleeping that well for probably a couple reasons. My bed is rock hard, I'm adjusting to a new life, going to bed and waking up completely differently, and it's a little too warm. But the good news is I found two extra pillows and I took a sleeping pill last night so I'm good.

About half of the CCM is sick with this super contagious virus called the Nova ? virus. It causes bad diarrhea and headaches and just bad sickness. I hope I don't get it. Two missionaries from Salt Lake came with the active virus on their flight last week and it´s just spread like the Holy Fire. Crazy and scary. We're taking extra precautions as a CCM.

I don't eat too much in fear of getting food poisoning, because that's going around, too. I'm trying my best to be healthy and get all the food groups.

I LOVE PRESIDENT AND SISTER BENNETT!!! they are the CCM presidents. They're the actual best.

My roommates and I sang in the choir yesterday at the devotional! The choir is basically half the missionaries at the CCM though, but it was fun.

I miss my bed so much!

Also there is 0 space in my closet and nothing to organize my desk and closet, but I'll be ok.

I'm typing like a demon right now.

We had to teach our first investigator on our second day here in SPANISH. He's actually just our afternoon teacher and he gives us tips after but it's super scary. We're on our fifth lesson now though so we're getting better.

GUYS. I rolled my r´s!!! I´m not that good at it yet' but I know its gonna be possible. The don de lenguas (gift of tongues) is real!

For Braden, to say SEND IT in Spanish is ENVENTARLO. haha and Nerd is Ñoño. lol

ALSO every week they have you prepare a 5 minute talk in spanish on a topic and randomly pick you to speak on Sunday once you're already there. Of course I got picked the first time, along with my bro Elder Lowe from Spanish Fork- Ive met three guys from Spanish Fork but none of them know Kolby or Kalvin Smith haha.

My anklet tan is going strong.

I have to go! But please pray for me! I will probably get sick bc one of my roommates is sick, so pray that we will be able to recover quickly. We are leaving in a minute for the temple. All of these typos are driving me crazy but there's not time to fix them! I love and miss you all so incredibly much. I still feel like I'm just coming home next week or something. Being a missionary is a weird sensation. LOVE YOU ALL!!!!
