More Adventures

Transfer 1, Week 2...

Hola everyone!

A short update for this week. I have been trying to teach my companion some English phrases.. her favorites are What in the work?? (world), Okay so.. QUESO, and Peek a Boo, haha. She's cute. She is super bubbly and playful and keeps it interesting, haha.

Some Elders and our obispo (bishop) came over and installed a water heater for our shower so I'm counting my blessings. Before we had to shower at midday for the water to be less freezing, haha.

I ate this weird fruit called granadilla, I think? idk, I thought it was fine but it looks like fish eggs and they're a little crunchy so I gave the rest to my comp.

I made crepes on Saturday night to bring to some people Sunday morning for breakfast! My roommate Anna would be proud of me! haha, miss you Anna!

I went on intercambios, or splits, with another Hermana on Friday and it was really fun! Her name is Hermana Ferguson and she's been out for about a year, and speaks both English and Spanish fluently because her mom is from Spain. Anyway, it was awesome to talk to someone that could help me with words I didn't know. She's awesome and it was good to talk to someone in English.

My comp and I taught a few lessons this week which went really good! I invited an older couple to baptism! They accepted, and they're the couple that we gave the crepes to. Their names are Antonio and Gillermina. Gillermina prefers to talk in Quetchua, so we brought her to the Quetchua class on Sunday. Super cool.

We had a breakfast with our zone of chocolate pancakes and banana and piƱa smoothies. Super yummy. Muy rico!

Also, my comp and I had NINE of our investigators come to church yesterday! It was such a miracle. Such a cool experience, even though I couldn't talk to them that much, it was still awesome.

Next Sunday we are not allowed to leave our apartment because Peru is having electoral elections that day and it will be crazy. Weekends are already crazy with parties and music and fire and fireworks, so we have to stay home all day haha. Should be interesting,

Well, my friends, remember that God loves you! I have prayed a lot this week and have felt His comfort in doing His work. I love you all! Let me know if I can help you with anything!

Answers to questions in other emails:

hola!! I have all the answers for yah!

I eat bananas and apples with the weird peanut butter they have, haha, and also a yogurt drink for breakfast when we don't go to the members restaurant down the street to eat breakfast of eggs and bread and fried bananas. so don't worry about me! I'm eating fine :) I'll probably gain weight so I'm working out hard, usually yoga or running in the mornings.

I cook for myself for dinner, and most breakfasts. A member owns a restaurant not far from our house and she's a pensionista so we can eat there, we have twice this week. Tell Braden I buy the Peruvian version of Golden Puffs and they're only 1 sole a bag.  I live off of that for snacks.
I was thinking of things to put in the Christmas package and I thought of things that are expensive here or I can't find: peanut butter, nutella, sunscreen, and protein bars. Sorry those weigh a lot. You don't have to send them, I have personal money, too.

I wanted to let you know I saw Dylan B. in the Peru CCM! Crazy huh? I barely recognized him bc he had a haircut and was wearing glasses. He's companions with a friend from my BYU ward, Carson M., another weird coincidence.

I do have a phone, it's a little blue phone, with the old school keyboard. I kinda know how it works, but my comp has it most of the time bc I cant understand what people say haha.

I have seen a couple big spiders in my apartment that I have killed, don't worry. My comp wants to let them live or lets them back outside but I just step on them or spray them with the bug killer stuff we have that doesn't really work. It's not temprid, if you know what I'm saying.

My bed is clear of bed bugs, so don't worry about that. I also have two sets of sheets on it, haha!

My comp and me try a weird fruit which looks like an orange but inside are fish egg looking things that are not that good, haha. not bad, but she loves it so I gave it to her to eat. I don't know what pupusas are... you'll have to remind me.

She's a convert, her mom is a member, but she is not. She's about a year into the mission, I am her first daughter. She leaves for home in April and has the same bday as Bridgette. She said she wants 5 minutes on mother's day to skype me since she is my mom, haha, but don't worry momma, I need all that time to talk to you guys.

We have a lot of investigators and futuro investigators, but a lot of our citas fall through, or they don't answer the door or aren't home. We usually have to walk far or pay to take a bus only to find out they can't meet. So we spend time with members and recent converts as well to boost their faith and trust in us and in their Salvador.

We have a sink in our apartment for laundry that I wash my garments in, but take my laundry to a lavanderia not too far from our house, about a 7 minute walk.

I don't live in that place you took a pic of... I'm about two or three doors down from a restaurant called tu casa, haha. its a wooden door that leads down an alley to our apartment.

I love the pictures! glad you guys are busy and having fun.

I'm sad to hear about Brother Rowbotham, I've been praying for them this week and thinking about them a lot.

So excited Kolby is almost home!!! Wish I could be there to see him though. I hope this time flies by, but I also hope I learn and grow during these next 16 months.

I'm excited for General Conference! but don't know if I'll watch it live or later, in english or spanish, no se.

love you guys!!!
Sorry if I worried you last week, I always have a hard time saying goodbye after emailing bc I am reminded how much I miss you all. I'm really doing good!

I love you momma! yes, we go to an internet cafe place, has about 10 computers and we have to take turns as a companionship to email, which takes two hours. It's kinda dumb, but we follow the rules bc we need all the blessings we can get haha.

Thank you for everything, whenever it is hard, I think of how I need to keep going for my family, for my future husband, and for my future children, who I know are cheering me on. I've been thinking about them this week, and I know that I want to name one of my daughters Lucy because light in Spanish is Luz, which is pronounced loose. So I've decided that this week, haha. I strive every day to be a light and that's what I want for my future children, too.

love you,
Hermana Lowe
